What we're about

If you are over 40, live or work anywhere near La Cañada, and want to experience the joy of social/recreational dance with only a small investment of time, this group is for you. You will have fun dancing even on your first visit! International dancing is very good exercise and a wonderful way to make friends, bringing joy to your life. This group is a great opportunity for dancers of all abilities (including those who have never danced before) to learn and share the joy of moving to beautiful music from around the world. Visit us (almost) any Thursday for a delightful evening of dance and camaraderie. No partner or commitment to a series of lessons is needed. Although we do some partner dances, this is not ballroom dancing, so wear comfortable shoes. If you would like more information, visit our website www.Foothill.dance (https://www.foothill.dance) or email Jan at JanRayman@charter.net.

We teach and dance introductory dances from 7:30 to 8:30, followed by some socializing around our refreshment table. We often teach and dance more challenging dances from 8:45 to 9:30. You get both sessions of dance for $5, but there is no obligation to stay for the whole time. Some dancers stay until they are tired. When the weather cooperates, we occasionally have dance parties on the large dance deck at our home. Click here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKMkDssG3PA) to see a video showing what international folk dancing is and what it means to people. International dancing is very popular in California and we often have dance festivals on weekends, where you can meet and dance with people from other groups. There are international folk dance groups all over the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia, and they often do many of the same dances. Once you learn the basics of international dancing, it's a skill you can take with you and enjoy wherever you go! There isn't much folksy about international folk dance. It includes both traditional and modern dances from many countries and cultures. This is a form of social dance, done mostly with people holding hands in lines or in circles. Some dances are done as couples, but the majority of the dances are non-partner. This hasn't kept people from finding that special person through international dance.

Have you always wanted to dance, but do not have a partner or a dance background? If so, international folk dancing might be for you. Our dance group is appropriate for adults of all fitness levels. Most folk dancers are just regular people who enjoy dancing. The dancing isn't that strenuous, but some of the music is so beautiful it might take your breath away. Please join us to learn dances from around the world in our large dance room most Thursday nights! We dance and teach introductory dances from 7:30 pm to 8:30, followed by some socializing around our refreshment table. We often teach and dance more challenging dances from 8:45 to 9:30. You get both sessions of dance for $5, but there is no obligation to stay for the whole time. Sometimes more experienced dancers skip the introductory session and arrive at 8:30 pm. Some new dancers just stay for the early, introductory teaching and the snacks. Many folk dances are easily done, but a few are quite vigorous. If a particular dance seems to be too much, you can just join those socializing or watching. There is no need to try to learn all the dances taught. When they can't remember a dance, most dancers follow what others do. We try to adjust each evening’s dance teaching to the mix of participants.
