Dev Show: Predicting earthquake damages with Azure ML Workspace
Details
In April, 2015 there was an earthquake with 7.8 magnitude, and an epicenter in the Ghorka District of Nepal. The disaster injured more than 30000 people, which was in most cases caused by the collapsed buildings in the earthquake.
Many data scientists have been working together to find out the answer to the question: How could data science and AI be used to mitigate which buildings might need strengthening before another earthquake?
At this session you have the chance to understand the core concept of Data Science and Machine Learning, and to apply these techniques on a real life scenario. During the demo-oriented session you receive hands-on knowledge about Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Workspace, so that you will be able to use the same platform to examine your dataset, to build your own predictive model, to improve it for better results, to deploy the model, and to finally deliver insightful results to clients.
By the end of the session you will be able to plan a Data Science pipeline including data ingestion, transformation, preparation. Then you will also understand how to identify the core relationships in the dataset, and use this knowledge to design your machine learning model, using the best fitting algorithm. Finally, based on these findings thousands of lives could be saved in case of another earthquake.
Dev Show is series of weekly one hour show from developers to developers hosted by Sherry List (https://twitter.com/sherrrylst) & Rasmus Jaqué (https://twitter.com/RasmusJaqueDK). On each episode we dive into an interesting topic.
