As the days shorten and cool off, our needs turn from poison ivy rash, sunburns and mosquito bites to keeping ourselves healthy for the upcoming cold and flu season. Pharmacies, drug stores and even grocery stores offer the flu vaccine on every corner, making it seem as common as picking up a gallon of milk or a box of band-aids. What are your options as far as protecting yourself against this year's strain of the flu? How can you prepare for the flu? How can you prevent you and your family from getting it or at least lessen the severity and duration of it? What about avoiding secondary bacterial infections that can occur from complications from the flu, even for those who are vaccinated against the flu? Are there really herbs available for preventing and treating the flu, its symptoms and complications that can arise from it?

We'll discuss all of these important questions and more during this 2 hour work shop, talk about herbs that can effectively be used for preventing and treating colds and the flu and discuss preparations. Don't be caught unprepared, come find out which herbs you can stock up on now to make your winter a happy and healthy one!

Kristine Brown is a practicing traditional community herbalist and homeschooling mother of 4 children and 2 bonus (step) children. She has studied with Rosemary Gladstar of Sage Mountain and has spent countless hours of research and study through her own pursuit. She offers an herbal product line through her local farmer's market and online, does consultations, teaches herbal classes to adults, offers herbal work shops for kids and runs a monthly herbal study group, focusing mainly on locally found herbs, enabling the community to take control of growing and wild crafting their own medicine. She is also the Program Director of the kids' herbal program at the Midwest Women's Herbal Conference and also teaches at other conferences including the Traditions in Western Herbalism Conference. Teaching others about herbs is her focus with a passion of sharing her knowledge with children as they ARE our future!
