Introduction to Encryption Concepts

Details
Hey all!
Join us December 3rd to hear Sondra Iverson talk about Encryption!
Encryption is widely used to secure our daily digital communications. This talk will discuss various encryption concepts and their use cases. It will address questions such as:
- What are public/private key pairs and how are they used?
- What’s the difference between symmetric and asymmetric encryption and how does one choose which to use?
- How can a cryptographic hash be used to verify that a download has not been corrupted, either accidentally or maliciously?
- What is a hash collision?
- What makes HTTPS secure?
Sondra Iverson is the Server Applications Lead in the Center for Technology Implementation at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute where she enjoys developing in Kotlin and Spring Boot.
If you want to speak or have ideas/feedback feel free to email me at kghaggerty@gmail.com. Ideally, I'd like to have speakers in place months ahead of each meetup. We are looking for speakers in January and for the rest of 2020!! Topics are broad and can be anything related to programming.
