These classes are perfect for beginners! They provide an introduction to meditation and support for starting to practice meditation, mindfulness, and applying Buddhist teachings in daily life. Class includes two guided meditations, a talk on Buddhism for everyday living, and time for Q&A. Although part of a monthly series, each class is stand alone. You can drop in at any time. Topic: This Month: The Path To Peace and Happiness This series of classes is based on the book, The New Meditation Handbook, which presents the stages of the path to enlightenment or ‘Lamrim’. These meditations enrich our lives by helping us to develop special qualities such as mental clarity, kindness, patience, and insight. They empower us to deal positively with any situation we meet, gradually becoming a source of inspiration and joy for others. If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort. Through meditation we find happiness from a different source and a special mental attitude that cherishes other people and thereby developing a supreme Kind Heart, the gateway to pure compassion and love. Through this series we discover ways to unlock our own inner potential for lasting peace and happiness. This is a donation based class. No on is turned away for lack of funds. The Teacher: John McKethan has been studying and practicing Kadampa Buddhism for over 15 years and is currently on the Special Teacher Training Program within Kadampa Buddhism. He has taught at several of our Metroplex locations over the years. John brings a light-hearted yet sincere approach to teaching so that meditation and Buddhism is accessible for everyone.
