Fotility is a full time, fully insured photography studio based in San Diego and servicing clients all over the world. We are also extremely passionate about the photography and videography industry, and love to share our passion with others! We created this Meetup Group specifically to share our love for photography with anyone interested in capturing amazing images, has just purchased or is interested in purchasing a DSLR camera, or wanting to learn more about the basics of digital photography! Sorry, no intermediate photographers or professionals, this Meetup is for beginners or entry-level enthusiasts only!

This group will be hosting BOTH free shoot opportunities and low cost, paid workshops. ALL workshops will include PDF documentation, including Overview, Vocabulary, and Optional Assigments. Workshops are limited to twenty (20) attendees, to ensure proper attention can be given to everyone!

Lesson 01 - Digital Photography Basics

This Workshop is designed to give Attendees a brief overview of the basic information needed to get started in digital photography. The Workshop consists of the following sessions: open discussion on basic terminology associated with beginning digital photography; hands on practice; question and answer time, and review of optional take home assignments. During this Workshop, Attendees will learn about the differences between cropped and full frame cameras, mirrorless versus standard DSLR cameras, and shooting manual versus automatic modes. Attendees will also discuss and practice taking digital photographs while adjusting ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed values. A PDF curriculum will be provided to each attendee in advance of the workshop, which shall include the agenda, written descriptions of all topics being discussed, a vocabulary section, and a detailed overview of the optional take home assignment to continue practicing items taught during this workshop. Lesson 02 - Lenses, Filters and Flash

This Workshop is designed to give Attendees a brief overview of the various types of lenses, filters and flashes available to digital photographers, and their uses. The Workshop consists of the following sessions: open discussion on basic types and terminology associated with DSLR lenses, filters and flash; hands on practice; question and answer time, and review of optional take home assignments. During this Workshop, Attendees will learn about the different type of lenses available, the differences between the types of lenses and what they are commonly used for, the various types of lens filters, and the different types of flash and their applications. Attendees will discuss and practice features related to lens selection, depth of field, camera shake, and both on and off camera flash. A PDF curriculum will be provided to each attendee in advance of the workshop, which shall include the agenda, written descriptions of all topics being discussed, a vocabulary section, and a detailed overview of the optional take home assignment to continue practicing items taught during this workshop. Lesson 03 - Composition Styles

This Workshop is designed to give Attendees a brief overview of the various types of composition styles (how your shots are setup and how they are viewed by others) incorporated by both film and digital photographers. The Workshop consists of the following sessions: open discussion on composition styles; hands on practice with a LIVE MODEL; question and answer time, and review of optional take home assignments. During this Workshop, Attendees will learn about the most common and standard composition styles used in both film and digital photography, such as the rule of thirds and linear composition. Attendees will also have the opportunity to practice the various composition styles with a LIVE MODEL. A PDF curriculum will be provided to each attendee in advance of the workshop, which shall include the agenda, written descriptions of all topics being discussed, a vocabulary section, and a detailed overview of the optional take home assignment to continue practicing items taught during this workshop. Workshop is limited to twenty (20) attendees, to ensure we can give everyone the proper amount of attention to practice what is taught, discuss and ask questions. Since we will be working with a LIVE MODEL, this workshop is slightly more expensive to help offset the cost of the model.

Lesson 04 - Creative Photography

This Workshop is designed to give Attendees a brief overview of the various types of creative techniques incorporated by digital photographers. The Workshop consists of the following sessions: open discussion on creative techniques and tools; hands on practice with a LIVE MODEL; question and answer time, and review of optional take home assignments. During this Workshop, Attendees will learn about various techniques to add a touch of creativity to their digital images, such as off camera lighting, colored gels, long shutter and time lapse photography. Attendees will also have the opportunity to practice utilizing some of these techniques with a LIVE MODEL. A PDF curriculum will be provided to each attendee in advance of the workshop, which shall include the agenda, written descriptions of all topics being discussed, a vocabulary section, and a detailed overview of the optional take home assignment to continue practicing items taught during this workshop. Workshop is limited to twenty (20) attendees, to ensure we can give everyone the proper amount of attention to practice what is taught, discuss and ask questions. Since we will be working with a LIVE MODEL, this workshop is slightly more expensive to help offset the cost of the model.
