What we're about

FredDev is a social group geared toward developers and designers from around the Fredericksburg, VA region. It's an opportunity for you to come together with your peers to build community, discuss technologies, and solve problems.

We also have members only forums: https://www.meetup.com/FredDev/messages/boards/ .

Due to the phone app for meetup.com does not show the mesage boards or the discussions we have created a slack workspace for FredDev members to use: https://freddev-group.slack.com .

JavaScript Game Development With Phaser - Tile Maps & Plug Ins

Phaser is a modern, robust, JavaScript game development framework for the web. It uses Canvas and WebGL rendering, provides multiple physics engines, supports tile maps, sprite-sheets, tween animation and sound. Join presenter Matt Wilber for a step-by-step walk through of the Plug-In and Tile Map features of the Phaser framework and develop a clone of the classic game "The Legend of Zelda". We’ll look at the tile map generating app, Tiled, and create game levels without any programming. We'll also look at Phaser's plug-in system and create a reusable character dialog module. Matt is a voracious web tinkerer and UI/UX developer for Cosaic, a fin-tech company based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Matt has a long history of game development for companies such as Visionary Media (home of “Whirl Girl”, the web’s first serialized cartoon series), Warner Bros. Online Entertainment and Vice Media.
