National Day of Reason (NDOR) May 3rd, 2012

Good afternoon – Triangle Freethought Society is hosting a regional event for the National Day of Reason. The National Day of Reason is promoting an alternative to the National Day of Prayer. In addition to celebrating reason, it aims to raise public awareness about the threat to religious liberty posed by government intrusion into the private sphere of worship. The National Day of Reason, on May 3rd, 2012 has been celebrated since 2003 as a more inclusive alternative to the divisive and congressionally mandated National Day of Prayer. The National Day of Reason is about taking time to improve our communities. It is also about ensuring that our government represents citizens of all beliefs and backgrounds, and opposing Faith based initiatives in the federal government which give preferential treatment to religious organizations that openly proselytize and practice discrimination;
restrictions on important scientific research on the basis of religious objections; attempts to introduce biblical creationism and its alter-ego "Intelligent Design" into our public school science curricula; and the appointment of judges who willingly place their religious beliefs above our laws.

There are many events scheduled throughout the day which you can attend, all of which are free with the exception of lunch and the evening fundraiser at Frankies.

The events are as follows:

Reason Breakfast - Celebration of Reason 7:00 to 8:30 am
Lobby Training 9:00 - 10:30 am
Main Event on Capitol Grounds 11:45 am – 1:15 pm
Lunch and Social at Woody's City Market 1:30 to 3:00 pm
Speakers' Conference 3:30 - 5:30 pm
Evening Celebration and Fundraiser at Frankie’s 7:00-9:00 pm

The main event on the Capitol grounds will have live music and talks from Dan Barker (co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation and co-host of Freethought Radio) Amanda Knief (one of the most widely-read and well-respected bloggers in the atheist blogosphere) and Greta Christina (the Government Relations Manager at the Secular Coalition for America and co-founder of the Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers).

All details can be found on the Triangle Freethought Society National Day of Reason page located http://trianglefreeth....

Thank you for your help and we hope to see you there!
