Free Trip To Cornwall/Kernow - Coves, Cliffs & Coast Walks By The Atlantic Ocean

  • to

  • Penzance - Land's End - St Michael's Mount - Southwest Coast Path

    Penwith, Cornwall, England (map)

    50.352470 -4.960773

  • Note: All dates are tentative and can be confirmed or postponed up to the day before the trip. This is due to various reasons including staying safe (and dry!) during unpredictable UK weather, logistics and the availability of coordinators/planners. The group is entirely volunteer-run and we are happy to recruit reliable and passionate supporters who can commit their time to plan and navigate our free trips. Please send a message to our organizers in case you are interested!

Is Cornwall truly part of England, or is it a magical exclave of Middle Earth - or Westeros? Decide for yourself in this enchanting but adrenaline-filled excursion that will last 3-4 days!

This will be a slightly more challenging multi-day walk along the adventurous trails of the South West Coast Path at the southernmost point of mainland Britain.

Highlights of the section will include the secluded town of Cadgwith and the stunning rock formations around Lizard Point and Kynance Cove. We might also visit some other places in the area depending on the group's preferences, especially to relax after all the strenuous walking! (Candidates: Truro, Falmouth, you nominate)

As this is a longer trip (and quite far, too!), we want to finalize all details only after hearing the preferences of everyone who is genuinely interested. Dates are still flexible. So if you want to help decide, please make sure you answer all the RSVP questions!

Note that travel to these locations from London can last 5-7 hours so while a short weekend break is possible, you would have less time to fully appreciate the location.

More details will be posted closer to the event and after group has stated preferences - please RSVP "Yes" to express interest now and confirm/revise later.

    IMPORTANT
Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes.
Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader".
Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen.
Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-)
By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer.

Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips:

    TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE
Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel and (if required) accommodation - this gives everyone the freedom and choice to join from wherever they want and stay wherever they want. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered.
As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.

    ABOUT THE GROUP
This Meetup group was founded by a few friends in London who enjoy the outdoors through different activities - walking, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking etc. We are originally members of the volunteer and bilingual Toastmasters club RES "Russian English Speakers" where we put together a few day walks - they attracted so many people that we decided to share our hobby with a broader audience, hence we created this new group!

Any questions, feel free to ask below or send a private message!

Dear community members & guests, an important update: Originally I (the group founder) meant to coordinate most of these trips, but many things came up including illness, more work at my day job and other things - so it became unmanageable for me.

Fortunately we have some wonderful volunteers like Christof and Simone who stepped up to organize numerous amazing day-walks. I am sure there are other good people in this group who would like to help make these longer trips happen, too. I gather that some of you have already made arrangements for this particular date, so maybe you could help update the event descriptions, manage numbers and logistics and/or organize the itinerary and route?

Today, we are one one of London's biggest Meetup groups with so many interesting people; we just need more volunteers to take the lead to keep it going. Currently we're just 3-4 supporting 17,000!

Please message me if you have any ideas or want to step up (with this particular event, or in general)!

    PLEASE READ
We are a 100% volunteer-run community; being a free-time activity without any revenue means that our volunteers cannot always commit to every date in advance. As a general rule our suggested dates are tentative until a volunteer confirms, usually 1-3 days before the event. Please don't make any plans before that and don't add anything on your Google Calendar.

Anyone with experience may volunteer to set up a trip/walk. If you have an idea please e-mail [masked] with details about the route and the dates you are willing to run it.

Finally, check our group's philosophy and rules in the event description's IMPORTANT part. If you still have any questions or feedback please e-mail the team at [masked]

PS: We are rebuilding after some inactivity due to our main organizer's injury, so please be patient while we work behind the scenes ;-) Any extra help will be really appreciated!
