15-Mar-2020 Eastgate Café Important News

March 15, 2020

The Eastgate Café has been very good for the Free Range Ukulele Society of Oak Park (FRUSOP) Meetup since our first meetup there on October 10, 2013. So much good music and fellowship as occurred in this little restaurant that it would be impossible to adequately express the gratitude our group has for it.

Now the Eastgate is facing a difficult future. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has decreed that as of Monday, March 16, 2020, all restaurants be closed “to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.” Sam Toia, president of the Illinois Restaurant Assocation, said the two-week shutdown was “necessary to mitigate” the spread.

This is not the end of the story, however. The Eastgate Café kitchen will still be in business to provide pick-up and delivery to local addresses.

As a matter of courtesy, we are asking FRUSOP members and friends to take up the task of doing what they can to help the Eastgate Café for the duration. We suggest ordering a meal or two at least once a week; more if you can. For those who are too far to drive there, the Eastgate has gift cards available. Call[masked] to place your order.

And please spread the word to implore family, neighbors, and friends to join in the mission. “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” ~Helen Keller [masked])
