Fresno Data Science is your opportunity to acquire a deep understanding of data, and to learn and share what you know with other data enthusiasts! We typically meet the 2nd and 3rd Thursday of each month.
We believe there is power in in-person interactions. We believe in learning, sharing, and helping each other grow, technically and professionally, whether helping someone get their first internship, advance in their career, or build a better business. The math is simple: when people with different skills, needs and views come together, we’re able to produce more than we ever could on our own. We will do great things together!
Our group’s focus is primarily in three areas:
Business Intelligence (BI) Analytics Data Analytics Data Science/Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence
We also focus on Python programming for data science.
Join us, and change your career, your company, and/or your community.
Join us as we delve into deep learning for images, one of the most prominent areas in Artificial Intelligence. Specifically, we will explore Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) which are optimized for visual imagery.
We will examine how deep learning is applied to object and face recognition. We will also discuss how deep learning and CNNs can enhance music recommendations. Music can be visualized as spectrograms, and CNNs can learn from most things that can be visualized.
Food and drinks will be provided.
6:00 p.m. - Food and mingle
6:30 p.m. - Welcome
6:40 p.m. - Lightning talks
7:00 p.m. - Main talk
8:00 p.m. - More mingling

Python has largely become the language of data science, thus, to do successful projects, it helps to be comfortable using Python. Many individuals in our group understand the concepts of data science and machine learning but find it difficult to implement the concepts in code. The goal of this study group is to help individuals achieve a level of comfort coding in Python.
Importantly, data science uses only a relatively small portion of the language. In these casual meetings, we will focus on learning the essentials of Python for data science. We will meet on Thursdays as announced.
6:00 p.m. - Using Modules to Simplify Your Work
7:00 p.m. - Practice problems
Code quietly alone or in a group, get/give help
8:00 p.m. - Work on a larger coding problem individually or as a group
9:00 p.m. - End
