Details

# Agenda:

16h45 : Reception of Attendees
17h00 : Welcome (Daniel Gachet, Professor HEIA-FR)

17h05 : Contributing to open source projects – Pros (a lot) and Cons

If your device uses open source code like u-boot or Linux, you should/might think about up-streaming your local changes. Upstreaming means applying your changes to the publicly available component. Mainlining such code significantly decreases the amount of work when it comes to future version updates as well as improves the quality of the code in question. Furthermore, it interconnects you with the community that might be able to provide support for your architecture if needed. This presentation covers also the hurdles you will encounter, the policies that are in place and the needed tools.

Holger Brunck, ABB Schweiz AG / Grid Automation

17h40 : Fail2ban – from personal to community-driven

Fail2ban has been started back in 2004 as a personal project to fight against script kiddies trying to access a home server via SSH brute force. 15 years later, it is still maintained and developed thanks to the open-source community. It helps fighting brute force attacks against
many different services. This talk will present the history of Fail2ban and how the community contributed to make this small tool a fully-featured one used on thousands of servers around the world. A quick overview of the tool will also be presented.

Cyril Jaquier, Asyril SA

18h15 : Developing your software: what about right?

While it is obvious that the development of software requires ever more specialized technical knowledge, the developer should not forget the legal aspects related to such development, whether to protect himself from his client or to avoid the pitfalls associated with the use of content protected by third-party licenses. This presentation attempts to give a quick overview of the legal issues to keep in mind when developing any project.

Dr Philippe Gilliéron, TIMES Attorneys / Professor (Lausanne Law School)

18h50 : Information HEIA-FR (Roland Scherwey, Professor HEIA-FR)
19h00 : Aperitif and Networking
