Trip #6. Clear on Powwow Trail North Frontier - South Wilder to North Wilder

Details

( under construction, but the basics are here....) This could be a very demanding trail clearing trip - it is to the densest jack pine growth on the Powwow Trail. Our mission is canoe about 10 miles to BWCAW interior and then to dispatch treefalls and new growth on about .5 to 1 mile of overgrown trail using hand saws and loppers.
Itinerary
Departure day, May 9: We will car pool and drive to the Kawishiwi Lodge on Lake One.
Day 1: Using Forest Service supplied canoes (or bring your Kevlar), we will paddle the route to North Wilder, and then upstream to South Wilder Lake. Some bushwhacking maybe required (read: not for the meek). There are two campsites available to us. One, the "Lost City of Z" is overgrown with jack pines. The second site is on the opposite shore, and while technically open, the number of tent sites is unknown at this point. We will likely clear a few spots for our tents.
Day 2: Hopefully you will have gotten a good nights sleep. You will need it because we will be clearing both tree falls and new jack pines. The upside is that the days are long, so we should be making a noticeable progress.
Day 3: Day three will be more of the same and at some point we should be meeting up with another crew working toward us.
Day 4: Extract to Kawishiwi Lodge and then off to Ely for 1,500 calorie cholesterol award winning Moose Burger at Ely steak house or another establishment. Believe me, after several days of freeze dried food you will be ready to compromise on your caloric intake.
