Basin and Range National Monument, Gold Butte's "sister" monument- what is it, where is it, and why should we care about it?

Join us as Jim Boone discusses the importance of our neighbor to the North. An outdoorsman since before birth, Jim worked a dozen seasons in western National Parks. With his wife Liz, he attended Humboldt State University (BS in Wildlife Management, 1987) and the University of Georgia (Ph.D. in Ecology, 1995).

Arriving in Las Vegas in 1995, Jim did ecological research on the Nevada Test Site and began building the BirdAndHike.com website in 2002. Now retired, Jim works on his website and land conservation issues, including the campaigns to protect Basin and Range National Monument (2015) and Gold Butte National Monument (2016), plus the Southern Nevada Open-Pipe Mining Claim Marker Knock-Down Project (ongoing).

Jim was recognized by the conservation community in 2015 (Activist of the Year), 2016 with the Trailblazer Award (lifetime service award) and in 2019 with a Special Achievement Award for work on removing abandoned mine markers from public lands.
