The Friends of Highland Recreation Area was formed 12 years ago to help save the historic structures at Highland State Recreation Area. As an all-volunteer group, we're not only working to restore the historic Haven Hill structures and features created by Edsel and Eleanor Ford in the 1920's, but also promote the parks many activities through public and private events.
Join our meetup group to keep up to date on our events or, better yet, come out and get involved with the group and our work!
We're new on MeetUp, but our group has actually been around for 12 years now, so don't let low MeetUp attendance numbers scare you away from an event. Our board meetings and work days tend to run around 15-20 people each. Our big event of the year, the Haven Hill Festival, will draw a couple hundred, or more, if the weather cooperates.
Every year, the Friends of Highland Recreation Area celebrates the founding of our group, along with the birthday of Edsel Ford, the creator of the Haven Hill Estate, which is the eastern section of Highland State Recreation Area, and everyone's invited!
Held in place of our normal monthly meeting, these celebrations showcase our accomplishments and discuss some of our upcoming challenges. We also recognize some of the individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to getting us where we are, and who are helping us advance into the future.
If you've been considering learning more about our group, or have been looking for a way to get active in the community, this is your opportunity. Social gathering begins at 6:30 with the meeting and presentations beginning at 7:00.
