Quarterly trails update and planning meeting
Come help us plan the schedule; and maybe provide some expertise in these topics: 1. Geocaching - there are some in Wayne County already. Looking for someone who either knows how to do this already, or can dig in and figure out how to make geocaching a unique element for WC trails. 2. Mapping - know a trail that would be fun for others to use? we have a member who is putting together a map of all trails in Wayne County, to publish on this site. The whole county is the goal. If you know great spot, and will share, please attend, or at least email the idea. 3. Geodedic markers - did you know that hundreds of geodedic markers were placed by the Federal government (recovering from the depression) in Wayne County and across the US in the 1930s to mark height above sea level? One is located in downtown Mount Olive, on the building at the corner of Center Street and James Street. Locating and making a map of these (the ones that can still be found) would be a great project. Needs a leader. 4. Kayak skills - to map the best routes, take pictures of them to publish here, lead trips? 5. Attend Bike Summits in NC and other events to tie in Wayne County trails to the NC Mountains to Sea Trail, the East Coast trail (connecting Maine to Florida, east of the App Trail) 6. Connecting - to organizations on all sides of Wayne County, with similar goals

What we're about

Ready to jog or bike from Wayne Community College to the Neuse River? More GREEN time, less screen time... encourage people to get outside on trails that are "almost there"? Discover nature?

Volunteer to improve trails, talk up the benefits of greenways, get people outside in safe environments - in general, advocate for greenways throughout Wayne County. Our goal is for Wayne County to be a unique part of the NC Mountains to Sea trail, already under development... Have your opinions heard on the ground floor! Meeting monthly at least - action is what we are about.
