Amphibians include some of the most charming and accessible members of our wildlife community. Are you curious about our local amphibians: who they are, how to find them, and how to coexist with them respectfully? Join Julianne Bradbury, student researcher at Sonoma State University, and ACR Preserve Biologist Sherry Adams for a hike around some of the most likely amphibian habitats at Modini Mayacamas Preserves.
We will learn about the amphibians of Sonoma County and observe some tried-and-true field methods for viewing these wondrous little creatures. With luck we will see some amphibians in person, and if not you will leave with the knowledge of how and where to look for them on future hikes and in your own backyard.
The hike will include about 3 miles of walking over moderate to strenuous trails. This event will only be cancelled due to very heavy rain and high winds – light rain will provide ideal conditions for potential amphibian sightings. A decision will be made by 8:00pm the night before and will be posted on this Meetup Page and also e-mailed to anyone signed up for the event.
Bring: Lunch, water, waterproof or water-resistant clothing and footwear.
Suggested donation: All hikes are offered by fee or suggested donation of $20 per person ($15 per member/student, under age 18 free). These donations support the preservation, education and conservation science programs of Audubon Canyon Ranch (http://www.egret.org/) and are greatly appreciated!
