Frome's been undergoing a transformation over recent years and with its many new or renovated bars and cafes, some now hosting regular music, quiz and drama events and its professional-quality auditoriums like the Cheese & Grain, Rook Lane Chapel, Cooper Hall, the Merlin Theatre, the Memorial Theatre and the Silk Mill there's never been a better time for the socialites, the shy or the merely curious amongst you to get off your sofas and get out there and enjoy, and we're here to help you feel part of the scene.
Frome Meetup group's for everyone in and around Frome looking for sociable, uncomplicated fun times in good company at a variety of hang-outs and events. Started in September 2018 by our first group organiser Annie Webb, we've since grown in just 18 months to almost 400 members and posted up almost 100 events. So whether you and your family have been here since the Bronze Age, or you've just blown in from Barnsbury, Battersea, Barcelona or wherever, you're all welcome to join us and share in some of the fun and culture on offer in and around the town.
We've done country walks, Pub quizzes, Board & Card Games evenings, evenings in bars and restaurants, and attended anything from Jazz through folk Rock to Classical gigs. Now and then we've been a little more serious and listened to talks from explorers and writers of national stature. But to keep the party going and relevant we're always open to new ideas and absolutely any member is welcome to come on board as an event organiser and host pretty much whatever floats their boat.
Meetup's an international portal and alas, isn't free of charge. Access to the App on your smartphones or desktops costs your Organiser almost £200 a year payable to Mr Big across the pond so please be understanding if your Host for events like quizzes, games evenings or organised walks asks you for a sub of £1 or so to help recoup this cost. We've been lucky so far in avoiding room hire charges but if we have an event where the venue does charge us we will check this in advance and show it clearly on our event page.
Just a few simple rules:
Treat your fellow members and event hosts as you would your friends: be respectful and considerate.
Event photos are always a nice finishing touch to a good day out, but please ask members before including them in the pics you're taking, especially if they're newcomers you don't know well.
Always let the group know in reasonably good time if you can't attend an event you've signed up to.
Unlike some Meetup Groups we don't daub our event pages with acres of disclaimers or other legal mumbo-jumbo. We meet up purely as a group of friends and though we should look out for each other and use common sense to take care of ourselves, no Organiser, Host or member can accept liability for injury suffered by a member or their guests or their pets, or damage to their property, in the course of a group Meetup event whether it is the result of an accident or is caused by the actions or omissions of a third party.
