⚛ Electron & 🔥 Firebase

We’re having ourselves a merry little meetup! Two festive front-end talks to put under our combination Christmas tree/Festivus Pole.

All I want for Christmas is to hear Ray Villalobos give his talk on React ❤️s Electron. We’ll spread a little modern web cheer, building cross-platform iOS and Android apps in Electron with React just like Santa’s little elves do at the North Pole!

Baby, it’s cold outside, so Victor Cabieles will be roasting chestnuts on an open Firebase. It’ll stuff our back-end stockings in no time, leaving us all the time in the world to bake front-end cookies.

This will be our last meetup of the year, so if you’re a good little boy or girl this is your last chance to give a lightning talk in 2016 after our speakers. Bring us some figgy pudding on November 30!

Really enjoyed the presentations. Looking into turning my radio show's site into a desktop app using Electron and even more impressed with what's possible with Firebase. Just recently came across Angular Universal, so that's a new thing for me to research.

    Thanks again.

Well, I love Firebase. It is a very powerful tool and it's growth and new functionality continues to impress me, However MySQL has been out for longer and is a bit more stable. It is also not such a fair comparison because one is a relational database and the other one is NoSQL. The new version of Firebase, SDK 3 an up does have version control.

Firebase is VERY different from MySQL. It has a NoSQL architecture, which means that there's no schema and no relations...The advantage is that it's really easy for apps and it provides added benefits like real time, multi-connection and built in registration and authentication methods.

You have to learn to think of your database in a different way, but once you get used to it, you'll see the advantages.

Hey guys, my new course that my presentation will be based on is out on Lynda.com/LinkedIn Learning. I only have 30 minutes to do my presentation and this course is 3 hours long, so for a slower pace, check it ou. https://www.lynda.com/Electron-tutorials/Electron-Building-Cross-Platform-Desktop-Apps/518051-2.html

    Hey FEO,
I'll be working with this Repo: https://github.com/planetoftheweb/electron during my talk, so go ahead and download it before we meet. This is from a LinkedIn/Lynda.com course, that should be out next week sometime. You can find all of my courses here: http://lynda.com/ray.

I look forward to meeting with ya'll

Oh yeah, if you don't have a lynda.com/LinkedIn learning, you can get a free pass from most of the local libraries (Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia)...I think.
