We have a very special guest speakers this month -
Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean
Come spend the evening with Dean as he goes over his career as a musician, graphic designer, artist and photographer.
Dean Torrence was the co-founder, co-lead singer, and co-writer of the hit surf duo, JAN & DEAN. Dean first teamed up with Jan Berry in the 1950's while they both attended High School in West Los Angeles. The duo went on to score a huge string of hit songs beginning in 1959 until Jan's horrible car crash in 1966.
Dean is the "Dean of Art". Dean studied marketing at USC while he toured the country on weekends promoting #1 hits like "Surf City" and "Little Old Lady From Pasadena". Besides his studio work, Torrence became a graphic artist starting his own company, Kittyhawk Graphics, and designing and creating album covers and logos for other musicians and recording artists, including Harry Nilsson, Steve Martin, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Dennis Wilson, Bruce Johnston, The Beach Boys, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Linda Ronstadt, Canned Heat, The Ventures, and many others. Dean is a Grammy award winning graphic artist, having won a Grammy for design of the "Nitty Gritty Dirt Band" album cover and "Album Cover of the Year", for the group Pollution in 1973.

About the group...
Learn the secrets to using part-time collaboration to achieve full-time results with the spin off meetup of the successful San Diego Comic Con and WonderCon panel with the same name!
No matter which industry (comics, illustration, movies, art, graphic and web design, animation, costuming / cosplay, podcasting and many other creative industries), breaking into today's media is a full-time job, even if you have only part-time hours to accomplish it. To accomplish that goal you have to find or form then work with a team of people while avoiding mortal casualties. Each month we cover how to successfully juggle time between their creative and business sides and discuss the process, pitfalls, and potential of part-time collaboration from their experiences in illustration, writing, design and animation and other fields from a variety of levels of administration and sizes of organizations.
Whether you’re a hobbyist or a professional, if you struggle with deadlines, need help finding collaborators, want to know how to effectively work with a team or simply want to know how to get your foot in the door, this monthly meetup is not to be missed!
Hosted by the Microsoft Store at South Coast Plaza in Orange County.
