- Walking / Rucking in LindenGarden on 4th, Randburg
Join Us for a Walk or Ruck in Linden!
Fancy a good walk? Whether you're up for a relaxed stroll or want to spice things up with a weighted backpack, this is the perfect way to get moving. You set the pace, and if you’re feeling social, stick around for breakfast afterward…What is rucking (aka yomping)?
Rucking (as the Americans call it) or yomping (if you’re feeling British), is simply walking with added weight. Think of it as hiking with a backpack—but in the city.
It burns more calories than regular walking, strengthens muscles and joints, and is easier on the knees than running. It’s a full-body workout that costs nothing, works for all fitness levels, and has the bonus of boosting your mood.
Use a weighted vest, ankle or wrist weights, or just throw a few kilos into a backpack. Go solo, bring a friend, or take your dog along. It’s all about making it work for you!
Not feeling like the added weight? No problem! Come along for the walk in any way!Time and Where We Meet
We meet in the car park of Garden on 4th at 68, 4th Avenue, Linden, at 07:30, and set off on foot from there at 07:45. There is on-street parking with two dedicated car guards available (the car park is unfortunately reserved for the Linden Artists Market also taking place on the same day – see below). Our car guards (Peter & John) have been with us for years – please be so kind as to tip them when you leave? The route
The 5km circle route starts at 07:45 in the parking lot at Garden on 4th (68, 4th Avenue, Linden), and follows the tree-lined streets of Linden, avoiding busy roads and intersections as far as possible. Walk fast, or walk slow, as you wish… Walk solo, or find a group that matches your speed. Bring your dog with (on a leash, please)!
Start at Garden on 4th at 68, 4th Street --> head south-east along 4th Avenue --> Left at 11th Street (Linden Swimming Pool on the corner) --> cross 3rd Avenue --> keep left on 13th Street --> turn left on 2nd Avenue --> carry on straight, crossing 5th Street (please exercise caution, as it is a busy street!) --> left on 2nd Street --> left on 4th Avenue --> cross 5th Street again, heading straight on --> back to starting point on the left, at Garden on 4th.Linden Artist Market
By the time we return to the starting point, the Linden Artist Market will be in full swing at Garden on 4th. Feast your eyes on all kinds of original art from local artists, and who knows, maybe get something beautiful for that empty wall in your house?Breakfast / Brunch
Afterwards, join us for breakfast at Belle Bistro & Wine at Garden on 4th. Full breakfast menu available. Dog children welcome, as long as they are sociable and on a leash. Water available for them.Further reading: https://fitfunfusion.com/health-benefits-of-rucking-yomping.
