2 Talks: FP in JS-land; Prototyping for Radar (part 2)

Details

Talk 1: FP in JS-land
Speaker: Robert Pearce
Description of talk:
The emergence of functional compile-to-JavaScript languages opens the world of functional programming to web developers and the world of web development to functional programmers, but what tools are out there for functional programmers to use when they must work with modern ECMAScript (JavaScript)? We'll shine a light on JavaScript's functional aspects, see an overview of popular functional programming tools and focus in on a few (ramda.js and crocks.js) that make currying, composition, point-free style and Algebraic Data Types in JavaScript only an `import` away.

Talk 2: Prototype Driven Development–using Haskell for Radar Tracking
Speaker: Rohit Grover
Description: Follow up of previous talk. Firstly, a recap of a high-level view of radar target-tracking and the benefits of a prototype-first approach using Haskell. Then, a slightly closer look at implementation, to learn more concretely how Haskell features are being used to achieve these benefits.
Bio: Rohit has been a systems programmer using C/C++ for kernels and embedded systems for the past 20 years. At his current job at Navico, he is responsible for developing filtering algorithms for radar target tracking. Most of his professional work requires writing modern C++, but he finds himself reaching out to Haskell to write correct code faster.
