Machine Learning: A Short Introduction

Details
Research and applications of machine learning (ML) span multiple decades, yet only in the last several years has its popularity started to surge. This talk will discuss what machine learning is and why it is important, overview its history and interaction with other disciplines, and present the principles behind several key families of ML algorithms, along with illustrative applications. We will also overview prominent ML software and tools, and conclude with speculations on exciting developments that the future holds (or not).
