What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in Google developer technologies. We will cover Google languages like Dart and Go, Google frameworks like Angular and Polymer (for JavaScript and Dart), coding for clients and servers, Android development, Chrome and Chrome Packaged Apps, Chrome OS, Wearables, TV, Glass, Search, and more.

If you are just getting started with Google or are already an expert, or if you are a developer and are making the transition to Google's developer tools and to understanding this space, then this is the meetup for you.

We'll be scheduling events throughout Salt Lake and Utah counties, so there's bound to be one near you, wherever you live.

To learn more, check out our resource pages (http://www.meetup.com/Google-Developers-Group-Utah/about), or visit us on Google+ (https://plus.google.com/+Gdgut).

Attendance Policy: Please help us be wise with money and time by treating the RVSP as "I will be attending." If your plans change, please update your RSVP as soon as you are able. If you RSVP yes, but do not attend, we will flag you as a "no-show" for that meetup and may not count you for food or prize numbers in the future if you accrue too many no-shows. Of course, if you are marked as no show and had an emergency please message us and we'll remove it.

The Hardware-Enabled Side of Android Security/Privacy by Shawn Willden of Google

Join us to hear from one of the only Google engineers working in Utah! Shawn has been working on the Android team for 5 years. Learn about how Android is making use of special security hardware to protect the security and privacy of all of your data, and to enable exciting new use cases like mobile driver’s licenses and digital car keys. The engineer who designed and built some of the core security components inside of billions of Android devices today, and who leads the team that is developing the next generation of security and privacy hardware for Android, will explain the hardware security features and systems used by the Android system and apps today, and give some insights into what is coming in the future. He will also describe some of the challenges and joys inherent in working on a platform that is delivered through an entire ecosystem of partners – and used by nearly half of the world’s population. Full bio: Shawn Willden is a Staff Software Engineer at Google, and the founder, technical lead and manager of the Android Hardware Security team, responsible for designing and building operating system components that make use of security hardware in Android devices to increase the security and privacy properties of Android devices and apps running on them, and for enabling new use cases that depend on secure hardware. His code runs on over two billion devices. Shawn has been a Google engineer for eight years, five of them spent working on Android. Prior to Google, he worked for many different companies, including 15 years at IBM and seven years with other Utah-based software companies. Shawn is a proud graduate of Weber State University, and today sits on multiple WSU advisory boards and has endowed a scholarship in Computer Science. Shawn is a Utah native and lives and works in his rural home in Morgan, Utah, less than 10 miles from Snowbasin where he can be found skiing most weekday mornings during the ski season. His other hobbies include photography, SCUBA diving, water skiing, shooting, hiking and camping. He has four children, all adults, and one beautiful granddaughter whose picture he shows to virtually everyone he meets.
