I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer and staying cool. We've had a busy couple of months with Rachel turning 10 and my volunteering for HSC's conference, but now we are ready for another amazing fall at gee!
We have our favorite classes like Ms. Erin's writing classes and Ms. B's art classes. And we've added a new teacher with Marine Biology and Geography. I'm still putting the details together on a couple of other classes, but we are pretty much set for September.
I just wanted to send a special welcome our new families: whether this is your first year homeschooling or
your fifth, we hope you and your family find the support you need at our learning center. George and I put gee! together three years ago for the enrichment of our local homeschooling community and we've been blown away by the support we've received. I'm always on the lookout for new and amazing learning opportunities for our children, so please send me any ideas or teachers you know.
A bit about how things work at gee! We use meetup.com to handle the posting and RSVPs for our classes. Families interested in our classes, join meetup.com for free and receive emails when we post a new class. Meetup also offers a terrific way to communicate with other parents who've RSVPd with comments for each class listing.
Our classes are open to all students - regardless of how they
are educated. We are a vendor for Sky Mountain charter school, so we can receive POs from families in that school, but otherwise we accept checks and credit cards through Amazon payments. We hope to introduce cc payments on the first day of class and I'll keep you posted on that. Some of our teachers are also vendors, so I specify in each listing who the PO should go to.
Parents are always welcome to hang out during class. We have a couple of tables where parents can sit with younger siblings and do some school work. gee! is in a retail center with Paint N Glaze, a nail shop, a yummy pizza place, a scrapbooking store, Jazzercise, and now a reptile shop. We are also close to parks, libraries, and the LB Towne Center.
Most our classes are at gee!, but sometimes
we'll have something in the park or at another location. I try to highlight that in my postings.
We have a facebook page
where I post a bunch of stuff daily. I don't want to overwhelm your email so I put it on fb. The link is https://www.facebook.com/GreatEducationalExperiences?ref=hl
If you are new to homeschooling (or maybe old, too), I've listed a bunch of local resources and info I've picked up along the way at LBHomeschooling.com
. The best thing is the calendar and I try to maintain that regularly.
And, finally, let me know if you have any questions. I hope to see you and your family soon. Thank you!
