Visit to Somnath, Dwarka and DIU

Ahmedabad

₹21,000.00

With the starting of the auspicous month, let’s go on a tour of Somnath and Dwarka in Gujarat. We would be seeing some of the below well known locations in Gujarat. Adlaj ka Vav: Adlaj ka vav is a step well. It is intricately carved and is five storied. It was used to store water. It was built in 1498 by Queen Rudabai. It is believed that the villagers would come every day to fill water, offer prayers to the various deities carved on the walls and spend time with each other in the shade of the vav /well. Dwarka: This was the kingdom of Lord Krishna. It is the only place considered as one of the four principal holy places (char dham), as well as one of the seven ancient towns (sapta puris) to visit. It is believed that immediately after the death of Lord Krishna and the consequent demise of the Yadav dynasty a massive flood swallowed all of Dwarka and submerged the city to the bottom of the ocean. Today, the present Dwarka is at the opening of the Gomti river on the Arabian Sea and is renowned for the Dwarkadheesh temple. Nageshwar Jyothilinga Temple Located on the route between Dwarka city and Beyt Dwarka Island on the coast is an important Lord Shiva Temple. It is enshrined by one of the 12 swayambhu (self-existent) jyothirlingas in the world, in an underground sanctum. A 25 m tall statue of a sitting Lord Shiva and a large garden with a pond are major attractions of this rather serene place. Porbandar The site of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth, now called Kirti Mandir, has been converted into a small museum about him, with an exhibit of old photographs, some of his very few possessions and a nice library of books either by him or relating to Gandhian philosophy and practice. DIU The union territory of Diu has wonderful places to see. The Diu Fort - - cum - castle, is known as 'Praça de Diu' in Portuguese, is situated on the southern tip of Gujarat and is at the mouth of the Gulf of Khambhat. It has a magnificient view of the sea. The Naida caves are located on the periphery of the Diu fort. These caves have a big network of tunnels with square steps. INS Khukri Memorial is the memorial site of an Indian Naval Ship that sank during the Indo-Pak War of 1971. SOMANTH One of the Twelve Jyothirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva.
