What we're about

GLS (Gay and Lesbian Sierrans) is going digital! Bye bye email, hello Meetup.

Our vision and culture to welcome LGBTQ people and allies are the same, however. We believe in getting people in the outdoors in a safe and organized manner. All of our leaders are trained in outdoor leadership, ethics, and wilderness medicine. We have been part of the Sierra Club and the gay community for over 15 years. Together we can explore and protect our wild places.

Over the next few months, we will be reorganizing and looking for new leaders (we'll train you!). Let us know what you would like to see in terms of events and if you would like to help maintain this community organization.

Our outings are inclusive. While we are providing space for the LGBTQ and allies community, any lover of the outdoors is welcome to join us.

Camping, hiking and/or boating at Steamboat Lake

Steamboat Lake

Enjoy the beauty of fall about 30 miles North of the Steamboat Springs area on a camping, hiking and boating outing at Steamboat Lake State Park (https://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/SteamboatLake/Pages/default.aspx). Camping is first come, first serve for sites but we will stake out some spots in the Dutch Hill campground, Bridge island area earlier on Friday, September 13 - see map: https://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/SteamboatLake/Documents/DutchHillCampground.pdf . Fees are $24/tent or non-electric hookup van/RV site per night sites and $8/day for a car pass. If you have a state parks pass parking is included. We will offer easy or moderate hiking that is close by and perhaps offer a day on the water if there is interest - see https://www.steamboatlakemarina.com for options. This is a group outing governed by Sierra Club regulations.
