PLEASE READ ALL THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY BEFORE CONTACTING LYNN! ESPECIALLY REGARDING INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR YOU TO BE ADDED TO THIS EMAIL. FULL CONTACT INFORMATION PLUS EMERGENCY CONTACT IS REQUIRED AND YOU WILL BE REDIRECTED BACK TO READ THIS INFORMATION IF IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR REQUEST. Do NOT RSVP on this Meetup site. It is not active. You must request to be added to email where the RSVP is acknowledged. RSVP's WILL BE PUT IN PLACE AT THIS TIME WITH LIMITS FOR SAFETY AND WILL BE ACKNOWLEDGED ONLY THROUGH THE EMAIL SITE. All hikers who respond on this site will be waitlisted. Please read below for information. This is a regular Meetup for GNHA Wednesday Slower Paced Hikes. This group of hikers are typically the more senior members of our club. Many hikers in this group are not on Meetup; rather, they connect by email and telephone weekly. RSVP on Meetup is NOT required and WILL NOT BE MONITORED. The only communication is by email. This is a Bulletin Board Announcement only, no hike description will be added here. The choice of hikes is typically decided and posted TO THE EMAIL GROUP by Saturday morning of each week by Lynn Coleman for the M-MS hikes and Bud Slaker for the E-M hikes. For the M-MS hike group hikes range from 5-8 miles,[masked] feet elevation gain, and a pace of 2 miles per hour. We will stop for clothing adjustments (stripping off layers) and water breaks, but not as frequent as the E-M group (described below). Typically, the group will stop for a lunch break on the trail or sometimes on the way back to Greenville. If we plan to stop on the way back it will be a hike close to home and will be announced in the write up. The E-M level hiking group will consist of a 4ish mile hike with a 1-1 1/2 mile an hour pace and usually no more than 500' EG. With more frequent stops to catch your breath. We are offering this as an alternative to those who are starting to think M-MS is becoming too difficult, are new to hiking and want to try it out or maybe coming back from an injury and need a soft place to start to 'come back into the fold'. You may contact me and indicate if this is your choice as well and I will get you on the correct level to hike. We want everyone to have the opportunity, no matter what their abiities, to continue to thrive as hikers as long a possible. PLEASE! IF YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR HIKING ABILITY FOR THESE HIKES, CONTACT THE COORDINATOR. WE WANT YOU TO GET IN THE GROUP FOR YOUR CORRECT LEVEL OF FITNESS. When you contact me I WILL AUTOMATICALLY ADD YOU TO THE M-MS LIST. This list is the main list with announcements for the group as well. If you would like to be added to the E-M list as well please let me know that. I do not make that an automatic add. PLEASE READ THIS!! An eMail announcement will be sent for hikers on the distribution list weekly. You MUST contact the hike coordinator if you have not hiked with this Wednesday group before to get on the distribution list. THIS MEETUP SITE IS NOT MONITORED. Bring water, lunch and wear suitable clothing, especially sturdy footwear. See "Lets Hike" at http://www.greenvillehiking.com for details on what to bring. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE INFORMATION REQUIRED BELOW! IF you would like to be on the email list for a description of the hikes, you MUST send me an email with YOUR FULL CONTACT INFORMATION, this includes ADDRESS, PHONE AND AN EMERGENCY CONTACT to request being added to this email list. AGAIN....DO NOT RESPOND ON THIS MEETUP SITE AS IT IS NOT MONITORED. BELOW IS THE CONTACT INFORMATION. Hike Coordinator: Lynn Coleman... [masked]

    Location visible to members

*****Effective Immediately and until further notice the following changes will apply to all GNHA Wednesday VVS Hikes in order that we better ensure Social Distancing on our hikes. ****** 1. There will be no hikes that require shuttles or key swapping in order to eliminate to need for carpooling as a result of the hike. 2. It is strongly suggested that each person drive separately to the trailhead. In order to discourage car pooling to the trailhead the only meeting place for each hikes will be the trailhead. 3. We will strictly adhere to a 6 foot separation between each hiker at all times. This will apply to the Trailhead, our lunch stop, breaks, hiking, and group pictures. 4. If we have more than 5 hikers on a hike we will separate into two groups at the trailhead. This should make it easier for us to maintain our 6 foot distance between each hiker. ************** This is a regular Meetup for GNHA Wednesday VVS hikes. The choice of hikes is typically decided by Monday night of each week. Hikes range from 10-15 miles,[masked] feet elevation gain, and a pace of 3 miles per hour. A Meetup note / email announcement is sent for hikes each week. You MUST contact Hike Leaders if you have not hiked with this Wednesday VVS group before. Please disregard the end time for this meetup. It means nothing, the hike will be over when it is over. The only reason that it is there is because Meetup requires an end time. • (VVS) Little Snowball Mountain via the Snowball Mountain Trail

This gem of a trail is located in the Craggy Mountains just 200 yards south of the Craggy Gardens Picnic Area on the BRP. We will start out on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail for .2 mile to reach the TH for the Snowball Mountain Trail. There are three or four distinct up and down climbs both ways (out and back), so we will have about 50% of our climbing on the way in and the other half on the way back. The trail first rises to Snowball Mountain (at 5,335 feet above sea level, the highest point on the trail) and progresses to Hawkbill Rock, then the newly named Izita Point, and culminating with our ascent to Little Snowball Mountain—the former site of a CCC fire tower that was removed in the 1990s. This trail is not that technical and is in good shape overall, with the biggest rock scramble of 8 or 9 feet at Hawkbill Rock. The trail has very few switchbacks so is mostly straight up and down the ridgelines, so the hike may seem more strenuous than its numbers might indicate. It’s also cool to be able to look back and see the ridge where you just hiked from in addition to being able to look ahead to the peak you are climbing next. Eighty percent or more of the trail is forested, so much of the nip of any winds that may blow will be diminished. This hike offers excellent views of the surrounding peaks and valleys, and some interesting individual tree shapes, rock outcroppings and flora. Wild turkey, bear, flying squirrels and many species of birds are in this area. There are no creek crossings, so your feet will stay dry all day. Join us for an enlivening hike in the heart of NC’s central Appalachian Mountains. Round trip Length: 8 Miles Total Elevation Gain: 2400 Feet Leader: Bruce Elliott,[masked], [masked] Hike Pace: Moderate: 2 - 2.5 MPH
