Tom Vadnais and Print Competition

Tom Vadnais and Print Competition

Details

The GNPA Smyrna Chapter is excited to have Tom Vadnais speak on “Fundamentals of Photography in the Field.” Tom will also judge the print competition.

Today’s cameras offer to automate everything but where to point the camera. They autofocus, auto expose, auto flash, find faces, and even fire the shutter when they sense smiles! But anyone who’s photographed in nature soon realizes the camera doesn’t always get it right. While most photographers know about the elements that go into making a photograph, very few actively think about the effects of each photographic decision before clicking the shutter. To start, Tom will demonstrate how the three elements of exposure affect your final image. He’ll also illustrate how to look for and use light, and how to get your camera in the ideal position to tell the story you intend. Regardless of your experience and skill level, this in-depth review will help you stay more conscious of the fundamentals of photography while you’re still out shooting. It makes shooting more fun, and will help ensure you’ll come back having captured what you intended. When not photographing failed tires, accident scenes, and wrecked cars for work, Tom specializes in making landscape and travel images. After years of shooting film, in 2001 he completely switched to digital for the incredible control it allows over the whole process of making an image. Since 2004, Tom has taught both a spring and fall workshop in the Smokies. He has also taught numerous classes, made scores of presentations, and judged and critiqued for many photo contests, exhibitions, and photo club image reviews. Tom has also co-led two NANPA Regional Events. He enjoys everything about digital photography from capturing images in the field through post-processing and printing back at home. Tom is past president of both GNPA and RPS. His website features a blog and galleries of his work at www.tomvadnais.com. We also look forward to Tom’s critique and judging of our print competition that is open to all current GNPA Members from any chapter. You may submit a maximum of 4 entries total.
