ABSTRACT

Retrospectives - establishing a culture of learning

Agile development comes with the promise of "inspect and adapt". In order to be able to do that, you need a way to inspect and the courage and possibility to adapt. Retrospectives, tried and tested, lends a ceremony for this

ABSTRACT

Beyond retrospectives - establishing a true Continuous Improvement culture with Toyota Kata

Agile Change initiatives have long suffered from the same problem - a strong focus on applying tools and practices but without delivering on the full potential of iterative delivery delegation of authority, flow of value and strong feedback loops. Much like manufacturing companies, focused on copying Lean practices like Kanban boards and Andon-button in the 80's and 90's, we have focused on applying Sprint Planning meetings, Burn-down charts and specific roles. Retrospectives were supposed to avoid this but have proven unable to provide the direction and ability to take on the difficult challenges of real importance, at least for the majority of teams and organizations.

Toyota Kata focuses on delivering on the core principles of Lean and Agile and establishing a culture of daily Continuous Improvement. It is founded on the principles of measurable goals, scientific thinking and takes an iterative approach to improvement. This presentation will give you an appetizer on what Toyota Kata is and how it might change the way you perceive continuous improvement in your organization.
