Ride the Bay Trail to Pt. Richmond (Level B)

Details

Come visit an out of the way corner of the bay. We'll start at El Cerrito Plaza BART, head to the Bay Trail and continue to the enclave of Pt. Richmond. We'll take a break at the Miller Knox Park so bring snacks/lunch/liquid refreshments and then return to the El Cerrito Plaza BART station. Along the way we will pass the Rosie the Riveter Museum, the new Richmond SF ferry terminal, downtown Pt. Richmond, the remnants of the old Richmond/SF ferry, the Red Oak Victory ship (one of the few remaining WWII supply ships), a retired brick oven that made bricks for the Palace Hotel in SF and pass by the Watershed Native Plant Nursery. Who knew Richmond had so many cool spots?

The ride is 70% scenic and 30% industrial with light traffic. The only down side to this ride are the several train tracks we'll have to cross. As a reminder, we won't stop to purchase food & drink along the way so be sure to BYO. Here's a link to the route. Please feel free to print it out if you want a map. (If you sign up for Ride with GPB you can also print a turn sheet.)

(Not had your bicycle out in a long while? Please have it checked over by a bike mechanic to be sure it is safe and reliable.)

• We'll ride on the road, with and without a bike lane, and multiuse paths.

• Rain cancels. We will send a message via Meetup if we cancel to those who RSVP for this ride.

• Anything you want to know about biking? No question is too basic -- other Gals will probably want to know, too!

We are grateful for all the good work of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and Bike East Bay to improve conditions for local bicycling. We encourage you to check out their work at sfbike.org and bikeeastbay.org. You can join at a ride for $25 per organization for a one-year membership.
