Game AI meetup is back! There will be three talks from academia and industry.
Our three speakers are:
Jon Chamberlain (University of Essex)
Games with a Purpose? How the Phrase Detectives language game provides insights into human language
"Games with a purpose" or GWAPs are a category of games that collect useful data from players as they play and have been used for projects ranging from search engine optimisation through to gene splicing. In this talk Dr Jon Chamberlain will present research from the Phrase Detectives (http://www.phrasedetectives.com) language GWAP that has been collecting data for over 10 years on how humans interpret language and how ambiguity in language can be explored through a game.
Chris Madge (Queen Mary, University of London)
One of the main challenges in these games is creating an entertaining wrapper around the tedious task of text labelling. Historically, such games struggle with player recruitment and retention. I plan to talk about the challenges, game design and ideas behind a new game I have recently created that incorporates text labelling as its core mechanic and achieves an average player session time of over 20mins.
Alex Whittaker (Bossa Studios)
Crafting Craftiness - User Generated Agent Behaviour
We imagine games where users are invited to generate as well as consume content, and we extend the idea of content beyond play spaces and into the behaviour of agents within a game.
We have explored representations for describing agent behaviour from the position of complexity and completeness and will present a solution using interpreted augmented transition networks which is efficient in both memory and processing demands whilst exposing full authorial control to the user.
We'll also have food and drinks and plenty of time for networking!
Hope to see you all there!
