Hello adventurous people in Wellington! This month, I’m organising a choose-your-own adventure to the waterfront.
Activity: There will be a choice of two activities: crocs or culture. Depending on the weather we can decide on the day which we want to do, we could even do both if people are keen and have the time!
- Croc bikes along the waterfront. We’ll hire croc bikes based on who has shown up. Then we’ll bike up and down the waterfront for the 60 minute hire window. This allows us to take advantage of nice weather, if Wellington decides to supply some for us.
- Te Papa Museum. As a group we’ll decide where to explore within the museum. Highlights are likely to be: The Matariki exhibit has its last day on 29 June and the updated Toi Art collection should be open by then. So there should be something new for everyone. This activity is our all-weather option.
Start Location: Croc Bikes at Lagoon/Frank Kitts Location since there’s a convenient car park there and it’s closer to the train station. Address: 39 Jervois Quay, Wellington Harbour, Wellington 6011. If it’s so miserable that waiting there isn’t fun, we’ll find nearby shelter (message Jenn if you can’t find us).
- Note: There are two Croc bike locations. This is NOT the Marina/Waitangi park location.
Minimum Cost: For croc bikes it will be $10-$15 per person depending on the size of bikes we get. Te Papa is free for all people who live in NZ, which is likely to be all of you. If you are visiting from overseas, it is $35 per person.
Physical considerations:
- For the bikes, you need to be able to sit in the bike chairs. There is no need to be able to pedal consistently, you can either sit up front and/or other people should be able to pedal a bit extra to support.
- For Te Papa, it is fully wheelchair and pram accessible and has many benches throughout the exhibits where you can rest between walking.
Duration: We’ll be active for about 1-2 hours depending on the choice of activity. Then we’ll have a “coffee” and sit for about 30 minutes. There is no obligation to stay the full time and you can leave early or stay later if you want.
What to bring: Street-walking shoes, water, money for food.
Who's welcome: any person at least partly associated with the games industry and as many of their family/friends that would also like to join. Children are welcome although for the bikes you’ll need to leave the pram somewhere safe (e.g. a nearby car). This is not a dog friendly activity.
Contingency plan: No need since we’ll just be deciding what we’re doing on the day.
Other Notes: You don’t need to let me know if you’re coming, but if you RSVP here then I’ll know to lookout for you and keep you updated if there are last minute changes to the plan.
