Double Feature: w/ Dmitry Novikov & Broghan Blackshaw! - GDoWxNZGDC!
Details
Dmitry Novikov - "Dialogue and sound effects in games vs films"
This talk will be aimed towards people who are interested in sound/audio in general as well as in sound for games in particular and also towards creative producers and art/design teams.
Dmitry will be sharing thier experience on how sound design and dialogue editing for games and films differs and is similar at the same time. They will discuss what we can learn from sound for films and how we can apply this knowledge in sound for games.
Broghan Blackshaw - "Needs More Boom - The Anatomy of Explosions"
This talk will be aimed towards new sound designers, but could appeal to anyone else who might be interested in how a sound designer thinks about constructing a specific sound, like an explosion. Explosions are not usually recorded live anymore, so this talk will largely focus on how to actually construct an explosion sound in Logic X (as in what bits you need to form the sound, tips and tricks, what makes a good one or a not so good one, foley etc).
People who aren’t audio designers might like it as well because it will help them to understand the components that make up an explosion sound (as represented in games or other screen media), and give them some insight into how a sound designer might go about constructing one to support and enhance a scene. The goal of the talk is aimed at getting people to think creatively about how to support what is happening on screen, and not only to mimic real life - but also to enhance a scene for a viewer or player.
Doors open at 6pm, the talk will start at 6:30pm.
After the presentation please join us for snacks, drinks, and discussion afterwards(around 7:30pm) at Goldings on Leeds street!
