Creating realistic AI behaviour in games that are both believable and challenging can be a particularly daunting task. Often we attempt to create effective AI based on intelligent human behaviour, but humans are often dumb, do silly and unpredictable things and sometimes are not the best model for your AI solution. Throughout my PhD research at QUT and exploration into suitable AI for a game I developed, I have explored some interesting techniques and philosophies for developing simple but enjoyable AI for players that I would like to share with you!

I am Dr David Conroy, a 29 year old post-doc Lecturer at QUT currently teaching Game AI and Game programming subjects. Besides playing too many games in my spare time, I like to make my own games and projects where I insert as much of my madness as possible. I hope to continue my research into Game AI and Player Experience as well as develop more game related projects into the future.
