Chat, Chill, Eat, Drink
We're a bunch of bipolar and depressed folks sitting around talking. We're not a structured support group, and we're not anything like group therapy. We're a social group which happens to offer some great support. Just being around other people who truly "get it" can be a relief. Day and time: Every Wednesday night. The "official" start time is 7:00 PM and a number of us get there on the dot, but others trickle in for the entire first hour. Not a problem. If you don't like being the first one there come at 7:15 or 7:30. We're usually there until 9:00, but depending on the night we may stay until closing at 10:00 or adjourn early. It's whatever each of us is feeling that night. We just show up without telling meetup about it, so the list on the right doesn't really tell you who's coming. Location: 15420 S Western Ave Unit C, Gardena, CA 90249. The restaurant has plenty of food and beverage choices. The group's interaction is not structured. We don't have a facilitator. We don't take turns talking. Some nights it's subdued; some nights it's raucous. But we are always drama-free, pleasant, and supportive. Most of us talk candidly about our histories, our meds, our symptoms and side effects. We also talk about our jobs, our partners and families, and our plans. We trade tips on dealing with the workplace, with government entities and with the health-care system. Even if you're in the depressed part of your cycle come anyway. No one will prod you into talking. Some people are silent for the entire time, and that's totally OK. Just being around people, as you know, can be beneficial for your mood. New people are always welcome so just show up. Feel free to sit and listen and decide what you think about us, or tell us your life story, or anything in-between. We are a perfect group for commitment-phobes. We have regulars but plenty of irregulars too. It's up to you how often you want to attend. Hope to see you there.
