The Gathering Volumes History/Biography Book Club meets the last Wednesday of each month at Gathering Volumes Bookstore in Perrysburg, OH. It is a place for people from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan to come together to discuss history, the people who made it, and any lessons learned or parallels to today's society. Although we read a wide variety of books we try to focus on people and events with a connection to our region. For instance, we have read or will read books about the War of 1812, Detroit, Ohio natives Orville & Wilbur Wright, Ohio native Neil Armstrong, Anthony Wayne (hero of the Battle of Fallen Timbers), the history of Toledo, and the settlement of Southeast Ohio. We hope you will join us and look forward to meeting you!

October 2019 Meeting of the Gathering Volumes History/Biography Book Club

The 25th meeting of the Gathering Volumes History/Biography Book Club will be on Wednesday, October 30th at 7 pm at Gathering Volumes bookstore in Perrysburg, OH. To commemorate the 81st anniversary of Orson Welles' infamous radio broadcast we will be discussing "Spooked! How a Radio Broadcast and The War of the Worlds Sparked the 1938 Invasion of America" by Gail Jarrow. The book highlights the story of a very realistic broadcast that convinced many Americans that Martians had landed in New Jersey and proceeded to attack the country! We hope you enjoy the book and look forward to seeing you!

Holiday 2019 Meeting of the Gathering Volumes History/Biography Book Club

The 26th meeting of the Gathering Volumes History/Biography Book Club will be on Wednesday, December 18th at 7 pm at Gathering Volumes bookstore in Perrysburg, OH. Since our regular meeting time does not work well with Thanksgiving and Christmas this will be a "Holiday" meeting that will cover both November and December. Our book will be "The Pioneers: The Heroic Story of the Settlers Who Brought the American Ideal West" by noted historian and Pulitzer Prize winner author David McCullough. This book highlights the ordinary people who became trailblazers and settled Southeast Ohio in the early 1800s. We hope you enjoy the book and look forward to seeing you!

January 2020 Meeting of the Gathering Volumes History/Biography Book Club

***Please note that the original book for January has been moved to March*** The 27th meeting of the Gathering Volumes History/Biography Book Club will be on Wednesday, January 29th at 7 pm at Gathering Volumes bookstore in Perrysburg, OH. We will be discussing "Pedestrianism: When Watching People Walk Was America's Favorite Spectator Sport" by Matthew Algeo. This book tells the story of Pedestrianism, or people walking around a track for extended periods of time. Although it may seem rather boring, it was a popular sport in the late 1870s and early 1880s. We hope you enjoy the book and look forward to seeing you!

February 2020 Meeting of the Gathering Volumes History/Biography Book Club

The 28th meeting of the Gathering Volumes History/Biography Book Club will be on Wednesday, February 26th at 7 pm at Gathering Volumes bookstore in Perrysburg, OH. We will be discussing "Out of Order: Stories from the History of the Supreme Court" by former Supreme Court Justice and first woman on the Supreme Court Sandra Day O'Connor. This brief, easy to read book highlights the history and traditions of the highest court in the land. We hope you enjoy the book and look forward to seeing you!
