What we're about
We are the D.C. area’s only social activity group for nonreligious gays, which includes atheists, agnostics, nones (http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/05/13/a-closer-look-at-americas-rapidly-growing-religious-nones/), humanists, freethinkers, skeptics, and others. This is not a political group, so this group is not about fighting the Trump administration and its evangelical Christians. Because gays are regularly bombarded with religion, even from other gays, this is a social activity group for gays who are free from religion. We’re tired of so many gay Catholics saying that they like the pope because he once said “who is he to judge” gays; this doesn’t change the Catholic anti-gay policy and dogma, and his church continues to fire gay people from their jobs in the Catholic Church just for being gay. This is also a social space where we don’t have to listen to gay religious people apologizing for the harm their religions cause and where we don’t argue about religion or religious texts. Gay-friendly interpretations of the bible or any religious texts don’t matter to us, because we don’t care what religious texts say, anyway—we don’t believe they are true. We have found that there’s social pressure, even a social norm, within the gay community to be religious, so, even in our own gay community, we can be outsiders because we are not religious. We are a real-life group that shares our experiences of not being religious or how we left religion and why it doesn’t make sense, or is even harmful, to be gay in an antigay faith. We are happy and content being nonreligious. Join us and hang out with us!
