Pittsburgh Geekdom Rules

Do you like Star Wars, Star Trek, Game of Thrones, Xena, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Firefly, Buffy, DC, Marvel, or any other sci-fi/fantasy books, movies, films or gaming? How about comics or manga? Maybe anime or animation? So do we!

This group is for people who enjoy anything related to sci-fi/fantasy, anime, comics, etc. We will plan outings to restaurants, movies, conventions and anything else where a group of geeks might enjoy going and doing. Come hang out with us and find your fellow geeks!

Please note that as a member of Pittsburgh Geekdom, we trust that you will behave in a respectful manner at all times, i.e. you will be expected to respect the rules of the group, you will be expected to treat members courteously during events, and you will be expected to extend that courtesy and good behavior to your interactions with members outside of Meetup (ex. on social media, via phone, etc).

If you are new to the group, please continue reading to review our rules for membership.

RULES FOR MEMBERSHIP

1. Members must RSVP with a Yes to each of the Meetup events they plan on attending. If you are a No then not RSVPing is fine. (If you are interested in a Waitlisted event or an event where the host is making reservations, but you are unsure if you can attend just yet, you may also RSVP Yes to hold a seat for yourself – as long as you follow Rule #2!)

2. Members must do their best to keep their RSVP update to date. If you are currently a No, but are able to attend, please change your RSVP to Yes. If you are a Yes, but are not able to attend, please change your RSVP to a No. Ideally, we’d prefer that you RSVP be up to date 1 hour before events. This is especially important for those occasions where we are waiting for everyone to show before going somewhere or carpooling, or may meet at a small venue where there is a limit of how many people can attend and there is a waiting list. Put simply, if your plans change, please update with "No" so someone else can go!

3. If you are listed as a YES, but discover you are unable to attend at the last minute, please change your RSVP or get in touch with your events’ organizer to ensure you are not listed as a No Show.

4. Inactive members or members with poor attendance records may be subject to removal from Pittsburgh Geekdom. “Inactive members” are those who have not logged in to Pittsburgh Geekdom in a year or more. “Members with poor attendance” refers to “no show” members. (Keep in mind a "No Show" is just when you RSVP "Yes" and don't show without letting anyone know.) Members are allowed a maximum of 2 No Shows every six months before being removed for poor attendance. Removal, in these instances, allow for the Organizers of Pittsburgh Geekdom to afford greater hospitality to active members within our community. If you have simply been removed from Pittsburgh Geekdom - and have not been “Banned” due to egregious infraction of Geekdom Code (to be discussed, forthcoming), then you may reapply at your leisure with full expectation of acceptance. Should a member fail to meet these requirements they will be removed from our group and will be considered Removed. A Removed member is designated due to inactivity, failure to adhere to attendance policy, etc. and may reapply for membership to Pittsburgh Geekdom.

A Banned member is decided upon with confirmation of no less than three organizers in affirmation (with at least one male and one female Organizer in agreement). A member may be "Banned" if said member egregiously commits infractions of rules previously listed, as well as any other inappropriate behavior towards one or more members of the group, with or without notification of inappropriate behavior, based upon excessiveness of behavior. A Banned member will be notified by an Organizer. A Banned member will be unable to rejoin Pittsburgh Geekdom.

5. To help events run smoothly and to ensure people can locate each other at events, members may exchange phone numbers within the event comment sections or Meetup’s message system. Please do not abuse any contact info that members may share for event purposes – i.e. do not use our information for solicitation purposes, do not harass members during their work day, do not bully members, etc.

6. Please respect individuals’ privacy and please do not air personal issues you may have with the group or an individual in the group via gossip or social media posts. If you are experiencing any issues or have any concerns, please contact our conflict committee.

7. Got an idea for an event?
Let us know! All suggestions for events should be sent to the Organizers directly.

8. You must ask before cross-promoting Geekdom events on other meet-ups.

9. All members will be respectful to this group's members and its rules. A selected group of Organizers and members will be on our Hospitality Team, aka The House of Un-geeky Activities and designated as such on their membership profiles (as Hospitality Team, or THOUGKies - for fun). Please address any concerns with your experience in the Geekdom to any of these good stewards of our community.

10. If indeed you have read all these rules please reply with a "+Yes" on your profile where it asks if you have read and agree.
Should a member fail to meet these requirements they will be removed from our group.

We are a friendly fellowship of geeks, these aforementioned rules are to facilitate the kind and respectful dynamic of our most beloved community.

Welcome!
