Special Event: Building Teams Where Everyone is Heard
[NOTE: We expect a very large crowd and we will cap this event. If you do not RSVP, you will not be admitted!]
Geekfest and Women@Groupon are partnering to bring you Chris Powers. He's returning to guide us through the process of creating an environment in which everyone on your team can be fully engaged.
Most teams pay lip service to the importance of team diversity and getting the best ideas on the table, but how many teams actively invest in it? Building teams where everyone is heard doesn’t come for free. Rather, it is rooted in valuing diversity and grown through intentional action. In this discussion we will explore ways to promote full-team engagement for under-represented groups, soft-spoken employees, people with imposter syndrome – everyone! Attendees will walk away with concrete steps to open up communication within their teams, whether they are in management or an individual contributor.
Heads up: this will be a little different from a typical Geekfest talk. We’re going to get interactive! We’ll be diving a little deeper together into the subject. So be ready to get involved and have some fun while learning something new!
Chris Powers has been leading software development teams for the last twelve years, and he loves sharing his passion for building teams and software with audiences nationwide. As a Clean Coders author, Chris is producing an educational video series entitled "Clean Code in the Browser". Chris is a Director of Engineering at Sprout Social and lives in the northern Chicago suburbs with his wife and two children. In his free time he enjoys drumming and tabletop gaming.
Food is always provided! Plan on coming a few minutes early (11:40-12:00) to grab a bite and a seat. Attendees arriving after 12:10 will not be admitted.
