"Xamarin: Building cross-platform native apps. What you need to know to get started" with Damian Mehers

I know what you are thinking: No one wants to create or indeed use apps which look identical when running on iOS, Android and Windows Phone. I agree.

However Xamarin lets you build platform-specific native apps whilst sharing "backend" database, business logic and service-interaction code. It provides bindings to native constructs, such as Activities and Intents on Android or View Controllers on iOS. This results in beautiful native apps which nevertheless share much code that only needs to be written and more importantly tested once.

All the C# goodness such as Linq, async and await on iOS and Android? Yes!

Some time ago it cost USD1000 per developer per platform to develop using Xamarin and Visual Studio. Since the Microsoft Build conference it is now free. Come to find out how easy it is to get started building native iOS and Android apps in C#.

A big thanks to companies that are supporting out group financially - Qim Info and Atos Consulting. We' really appreciate their help! Without their help we will be unable to invite interesting speakers and keep meetup going. Thanks!
