Want to keep in touch with the most interesting work in contemporary genre fiction? Wanna hang out in bars and talk about spaceships? Want to read books with other speculative fiction fans? Then this is the group for you!
The Genre Book Club is a monthly Meet-Up where we get together and discuss the vast world(s) of speculative fiction. The aim is provide a friendly, comfortable atmosphere (no bullies or creepers allowed) where popular fiction fans can hang out, meet fellow devotees, and geek out over a shared love of imaginative storytelling.
The world of genre fiction is going into exciting territory, and part of the group's goal is to keep members abreast of what's happening out there. Readings will be selected by the group and will be mostly modern or recent releases drawn from Hugo, Nebula, Stoker and other author guild award winners, Io9.com's book club selections, the "Recommended Reads" list of Borderlands Book Store, and other sources.
Genre fiction is best shared in good company. If you love books and have a big imagination, come check us out!
(NOTE: We are in the upstairs seating area directly across from the food court and above the Salvatore Ferragamo store. If you face the big windows overlooking the skating rink, we will be on the upper right.)
Originally published in 1968, Ursula K. Le Guin’s A Wizard of Earthsea marks the first of the six now beloved Earthsea titles. Ged was the greatest sorcerer in Earthsea, but in his youth he was the reckless Sparrowhawk. In his hunger for power and knowledge, he tampered with long-held secrets and loosed a terrible shadow upon the world. This is the tumultuous tale of his testing, how he mastered the mighty words of power, tamed an ancient dragon, and crossed death's threshold to restore the balance.
See you all there, where we'll pick our NEXT book!
