This group is for people who struggle with Social anxiety and who are committed to overcoming it permanently.
The group would be based on the CBT series Overcoming Social Anxiety step by step by Dr T A Richards.
The cognitive side of learning Cbt can be done without a group quiet effectively, However to put these methods and strategies into practice "actually going out and doing what we learned " can be very difficult to do without a support group of people who understand the pain of social anxiety.
A good understanding of the cognitve foundation strategies from sessions 1 to 7 would be important, including the session on Acceptance of Social Anxiety "for now only" knowing that step by step we are working on overcoming it.
Once a group is formed we could meetup for coffee and a chat. There is no need to dive into therapy exposures straight away, maybe a couple of coffee meet ups just to break the ice before would help. lol.
Whatever steps we take with the behavioural therapy, there will be NO pressure or stress put on anyone as this does that help overcome S.A. Behavioural therapy only works when we start with what ever level the individual person is comfortable with and slowly and gradually work or way up from that point..
( just so we are on the right track, any time we work against the fear of been the centre of attention, or are working against been self conscious in a public situation we are working against social anxiety.)🙂
I myself am not a therapist or psychologist, I'm just another person who's working on overcoming Social anxiety, but would love to try and get something like this up and running.
