Nonprofit Mapping Showcase

Details
The next meetup on December 7 at 7:00 pm at Stetson's will showcase examples of nonprofits using maps, geo data, and open data to streamline their operations, open up information, and communicate about their work. Five to six nonprofits will give 5 minute lightning talks presenting a specific example of how they are using maps in their work, demoing the map project itself and discussing its strategy, overall goals, and success so far.
So far, the lineup includes:
Shiv Ramachandran from InterAction (http://www.interaction.org/) will present on NGO Aid Map (http://ngoaidmap.org/), an online platform aimed at increasing transparency, fostering partnerships, and facilitating coordination among NGOs working on the ground on issues like food security (http://foodsecurity.ngoaidmap.org), famine in the Horn of Africa (http://hornofafrica.ngoaidmap.org), and post earthquake aid in Haiti (http://haiti.ngoaidmap.org/). Gina Rumbolo from Population Action International (http://www.populationaction.org/) will present on their work mapping population and climate change hotspots (http://www.populationaction.org/Publications/Data_and_Maps/Mapping_Population_and_Climate_Change/Summary.php). Mark Bergel from the local nonprofit A Wider Circle (http://awidercircle.org/), which collects furniture and housewares donations and distributes them to families who need them, will talk about how they mapped their operations (http://data.awidercircle.org/) to see where donations were coming from, where they were going, and what neighborhoods they were missing. Robin Kraft (https://twitter.com/#!/robinkraft) will talk about some of the geo data work he's doing with the World Resources Institute (http://www.wri.org/). Want to talk about a mapping project at your nonprofit? We're still looking for volunteers! Email bonnie@developmentseed.org or tweet your org + topic to @geonerdsdc (http://twitter.com/#!/geonerdsdc).
