Some Good-To-Knows about the upcoming High Falls Workday...

We are very excited about the upcoming March 31st workday at High Falls State Park! I wanted to share a little about the tasks of the day with you. These listed below are the highest priority tasks with #1 being highest priority, there are a few more projects not listed that we will tackle if our numbers increase and our productivity is high the day of the project. The capitalized name in the list is the crew leader for the project. We will wait until closer to the workday to get you in your assigned/preferred project task(s).

1. TRAVIS - Clean up and remove downed tree debris behind Yurt/Tent on Lake Loop


  • a. Significant amount of the trees have been cut in to smaller sections and roots removed prior to work day to make this a more volunteer manageable project
  • b. Will need 1 HS Leader and 6-10 mixed variety volunteers, some capable of holding heavy pieces of wood, someone able to manage a chain saw, others to pick up the smaller pieces to move
  • c. Tools- chain saw, gloves, chaps, glasses, ear plugs, mix gas bar oil, …

2. NYLETA AND MICHELLE - Sand and stain


  • a. Railing on both sides of river and on trail; picnic tables as needed in campground; B Loop bench at playground
  • b. Will need 1-2 HF leaders and 12 volunteers (good for youth/families)
  • c. Tools: brushes, rollers, stain buckets, sandpaper

3. ROY - Miniature Golf


  • a. Replace carpets on greens (prior to vol day staff have– removed old greens, pressure wash, edge, paint)
  • b. Will need 1 HF leader and 9 volunteers that will work in 3 groups of 3 for each hole.
  • c. Tools: adhesive, carpet, carpet roller, notch trowel

4. RICHARD - Concrete Crew


  • a. Install 3 Park Pass boxes in the (River CG 2 & Lake CG 1) campgrounds and 6 pedestal grills (1 at ea. Yurt) {holes should be dug prior to vol workday}
  • b. Will need 1 HF leader and 3 people that feel comfortable and experienced with quickcrete.
  • c. Tools: concrete, wheelbarrow, hoe, shovel

5. SIM - Chipper to Mulch


  • a. Items brought in from behind yurts mulch into pile to be spread around Park later date
  • b. 1 HF Leader and 3 vols to haul mulch and pile
  • c. Tools: chipper, wheelbarrow, shovel, gloves

6. BRANNEN - Boy Scout Campground cleanup


  • a. Looking to renovate the former boy scout campground into a primitive paddle in campground. Several small trees and brush that need to be removed.
  • b. Will need 1 HF leader and 6 volunteers; 1 comfortable with chain saw, others comfortable with loppers, bow saws and hauling
  • c. Tools: chain saw, gloves, chaps, mix gas, ear plugs, glasses, bar oil, loppers, bow saws

7. BUD OR TRUITT - Trail Clean Up on 2.5 mile trail


  • a. Removing any trees that cross trail, leave a 4 ft wide path for foot and atv traffic; sand, prep and stain any bridges on trail
  • b. Will need 1 HF leader and 3-4 vols; need 1 comfortable with chain saw, all need to be comfortable walking 2.5 miles while carrying tools
  • c. Tools: chain saw, gloves, mix gas, bar oil, earplugs, glasses, water, stain, sand paper

8. BERRY AND TED - Pressure Wash


  • a. Areas to wash- (careful with delicate sides) High Falls Rock sign at entrance to park x 2; rock sign at entrance to managers residence; park pass kiosk exterior; exterior of Office/trading post; Concrete pad at picnic shelter
  • b. Will need 1 HF leader and 3-4 vols (ok for older youth/family)
  • c. Tools: host, portable water tank
