September Meetup - A Place for Us
For September, we will be reading "A Place for Us" by Fatima Farheen Mirza, To be fair to our more active members, we have posted the selected book in advance to allow time to borrow from the library, etc. and will open RSVPs one month before the Meetup. "A Place for Us" unfolds the lives of an Indian-American Muslim family, gathered together in their Californian hometown to celebrate the eldest daughter, Hadia's, wedding - a match of love rather than tradition. "A Place for Us" is truly a book for our times: a moving portrait of what it means to be an American family today, a novel of love, identity and belonging that eloquently examines what it means to be both American and Muslim. We will be meeting upstairs on the north side of the Farmers Market. There are several staircases; find the ones located near The Refresher (soda stand) and Magee's Kitchen. Arrive anytime starting at 6:30pm, the discussion will begin after 7pm when everyone has their food. For those who have never been, The Farmers Market is an open air food hall with all different types of food stands. We'll give everyone a chance to get their food and then start the book discussion. Please make sure to park in the open Farmers Market lot and NOT the parking structure. The restaurants will only validate for the open lot.
