What we're about

This group is a part of the newly formed California Chapter of the League of Humane Voters, a national organization seeking to protect and advance the rights of animals through voter cultivation and persuasion, promotion of legislation and advocacy.

Animals need more than your voice, they need your vote.

By bringing together committed, compassionate, and persistent people, we can affect real change. This is a political action group that will put pressure on politicians to see the plight of animals, not as an afterthought, but as a reflection of how the world treats those it considers "other" and act to stop cruelty and abuse.

We need to make sure our representatives at the city, county, state and federal levels know that if they want our vote, they must do more than posture or say the right things in public, they must create and support legislation that acknowledges that animals deserve to be recognized and treated as living, feeling beings, not as property.

They must become vocal and legislative champions for animals.

Please join us. We need your energy, your passion, your kindness, your technical, creative and secret skills as well as your votes to make lawmakers listen and act.

Animal Rights, What They Are, How To Protect and Expand Them.

Let's talk about animal rights, what that means to us, speciesism, animal welfare vs. animal rights, and anything else that comes to mind. Let's talk about how to work the political system to get the policies animals need. Let's ask questions, share ideas, best books, resources, identify allies, etc. Please take about 16 minutes to watch "What animals are thinking and feeling, and why it should matter" [https://youtu.be/-wkdH_wluhw] on YouTube before our meeting as a place to start this conversation if you can. It is a powerful and thought-provoking video. Video description: Carl Safina takes us inside the lives and minds of animals around the world, witnessing their profound capacity for perception, thought and emotion, showing why the word "it" is often inappropriate as we discover "who" they really are. And yet, we are wiping out the very animals we should celebrate; we are the flood coming for Noah's Ark. Carl leaves us with a difficult question: Do we have what it takes to let life on earth survive? Please note: There are some graphic images in the video, but they go by quickly. Please RSVP so we know how many seats we need to hold.
