Panthertown Valley, Black Rock Mountain, Warden's Falls

Panthertown Valley is located in the Nantahala National Forest in Jackson County, near Sapphire/Cashiers, NC

The hike will follow the ridge of Blackrock Mountain from the Salt Rock Gap entrance of Panthertown Valley. Dropping down into the valley the hike will continue on to Warden's Falls. The last 100 yards of the trail to Warden's Falls is noted as a faint path on the trail map, a bit rugged.

I rate this hike as easy to moderate, elevation gain of 1100 feet. Optional we can visit Schoolhouse Falls if time and energy remain. The total distance is 7 miles adding Schoolhouse Falls will add another mile, worth if you have not visited before.

I am very familiar with Panthertown Valley and its history, which I will be sharing with the group as we hike.

We will return to the Mica's parking area around 4:00 PM depending on group ability. Great place to eat dinner before your return home, great menu reasonably priced for the area.

The travel time to the meeting place is 3 hours from Pineville, NC. You may also consider staying on a night and explore Cashiers and Highlands, NC, spend the night at Brook Trout Inn or Black Bear Lodge located in Sapphire, NC, close to Mica's. Why not make this a weekend getaway, enjoying the beautiful Smoky Mountains!

Bunk room available for guys only...sorry ladies. The bunk room is located in my mountain home and I can accommodate 5 guys. 4 in the bunk room and 1 in a private room. The price for the bunk room is $45.00 each and the private room $75.00. Please message me if you wish to reserve a bed for the evening. Payment upon departure.

For those who do not wish to return home after the hike you may also consider spending the night in Brevard, NC. If you do choose this option you can visit DuPont State Park on Sunday. DuPont is 12 miles from Brevard on the way back to Charlotte.

Carpooling from Charlotte may be arranged on the message board. I am arriving from the opposite direction. I suggest a carpool meeting location of Roses parking lot in Belmont, 605 Park St, Belmont, NC 28012. Easy access to I-85 South, most Charlotte folks will be driving past this location. Arriving at 6:15 AM and departing no later than 6:30 AM will give you plenty of time to arrive at Mica's on time at 9:30 AM. From Mica's we will caravan 15 minutes to the trailhead. I recommend drivers be paid $10.00 per person for driving expenses.
