South Mountain Loop

Meet at the Main parking area at the end of South Mountain Park Ave and plan on departing promptly at 9:30 am. The hike route is High Shoals Falls Trail, to Headquarters Trail, to the Shinny Creek camp sites and up the Possum Trail , up the Horseridge Trail, across the Sawtooth Trail to Chestnut Knob and back to the High Shoals Trail and the parking lot. You should consider this a difficult hike due to the elevation gains and losses in addition to the distance- approximately 8 miles. NOT FOR BEGINNERS! Obviously bring adequate water and snacks. We may also have a wet creek crossing depending on amount of recent rain.
