Balsam Lake Hiking Trip
10/20-22
Day 1 10/20- 12:45 pm, Arrive at Bear Creek Lake Public Boat Ramp (At State Hwy 281 ) and embark on pontoon boat, “HMS Minnow” piloted by the Honorable Captain, William Clark. He will navigate across Bear Creek Lake to Sols Creek Falls trailhead -1/2 mile hike round trip. We will reboard our craft and proceed to Flat Creek Falls trailhead and hike on an overgrown trail 2 miles to the tallest falls in Jackson County. Return to Boat Ramp at approximately 3:45 pm and depart for Balsam Lake Lodge where we will shower and partake in the adult beverage of your choice.
Chef Marge and her assistant sioux chef Chef Peggy will prepare a Lasagna dinner including Salad, French bread, and dessert.
Day 2 10/21- Chefs Marge and Peggy will start our day with a hearty Casserole of eggs, sausage, cheese, and hash browns accompanied by fruit, bread, coffee, and juice. They will take orders for luncheon wraps – Turkey, Ham, Roast beef and all accoutrements for a first class sandwich including trail mix and cookies.
Monday’s hike will be a nice 8 mile loop in Pisgah National Forest over by Brevard. We will shuttle over to the Pisgah Center For Wildlife Education at Fish Hatchery Rd - off of Hwy 276 (Pisgah Hwy.) The hike will circumnavigate John Rock and Cedar Rock Mountains. The trails we’ll follow are Cat Gap Loop to Art Loeb, to Butter Gap and return to the unhiked portion of Cat Gap and the parking lot.
Return to the Lodge and clean up before a wine and beer tasting provided by the beverage buyer of a Major NC Grocery chain. Everyone will rate the different bottles from first to last. Dinner will be a Mexican Beef and Chicken buffet fiesta including Tacos, Fajitas, Casa Dias, Burritos, Salad, Salsa, Guacamole, Rice, Beans, Chips and dessert.
Day 3 10/22- Breakfast will be made to order by request from Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Fruit Bread, Coffee and Juice. Sandwich wraps will be made to order for Lunch.
We will check out of the lodge and go to the Waterrock Knob trailhead just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Hike will go in and out on the Waterrock Knob trail to Brown's Knob trail where we will visit the site of an airplane crash and then on to Mt Lyn Lowery and the lighted 60 foot cross seen from Waynesville at night. Round trip for this hike is about 5 tough miles. We should be able to start this hike by 10:00 am and finish by no later than 1:30 with breaks and lunch.
The cost per person for this event will be $100.00.
